The Financial Dispute Resolution (FDR) appointment in the court process is a key stage in financial proceedings at which a judge will give an indication to the parties of the likely outcome of the case at a fully contested hearing, with the aim of focusing minds and helping both parties to try and negotiate an agreement.

The concept of a private FDR has developed in recent years as an alternative to the court based FDR, whether or not the parties are within the court process.  It allows the parties to choose their “judge” and have some control over where and when the “hearing” takes place. With the court system being overstretched and long delays between hearings, a private FDR could allow the case to be resolved far quicker than through court.
